Cosmetics (a term from the Greek, kosmein=to decorate, to put in order) can be defined as the "art" that improves and preserves the beauty of the face and body.
The passage of time inevitably leaves marks on the skin in the form of thin expression lines, wrinkles, and eventually, the overall degeneration of the bodily structure.
It is a natural process which none can avoid, but some bad habits such as poor diet, alcohol, smoking, stress, lack of sleep, and exposure to the sun without adequate protection, can accelerate the process.
Many actions can be taken to slow down this process and delay the visible consequences however, thanks to modern cosmetology, which no longer uses only cosmetics but is finding a new frontier in cosmeceuticals.
What exactly does cosmeceutical mean? The law makes a distinction between cosmetics and drugs, saying that the first have no therapeutic value and cannot boast of therapeutic advantages, acting as cleansers, emollients, moisturizers or make-up. According to dermatologists however, there are principle assets of prevention which, applied to the skin, reach as far as skin's deepest layers, including the derma.
Innovative anti-wrinkle cosmetics contain substances which behave similar to estrogen and steroid hormones, responsible for the tightness of young skin, but without side effects.
Among these are 18-B-(glyceric) acid, the flavonoids, and the leuco-anthocyanidines, which are anti-inflammatory and protective.
There is then the documented stable anti-oxidant Vitamin C and ketohydroxyacid which, like pyruvic acid, exfoliates and moisturizes.
Some substances are instead injected under the skin for cutaneous biorevitalization; among these we find polydioxyribonucleitides, biotechnologic hyaluronic acid, and vitamins.
At Marchetti's Pharmacy you have the opportunity to have a skin check-up and hair analysis.
The skin check-up consists of the evaluation of the degree of cutaneous hydration and/or dryness through analyzing sebum distribution and quantification on the skin surface.
The check-up serves to direct the customer to a cosmetic treatment appropriate for their skin type and can be repeated after some time to verify the health of the skin.
The hair test is done utilizing a video camera that allows to evaluate of problems that affect the scalp and hair.
